So, last spring I decided to take on the position of president of the PTA at my sons' school. The job really ramped up in early August, and since then-- I have pretty much found myself with a nearly full-time unpaid job. Crafting fell by the wayside. Like WAY by the wayside. While it just hasn't been in me to blog at all over the last few months, I have managed to make a few things:
A Concord Tee from Cashmerette Designs:
LOVE this design. I've purchased fabric for two more.
A cute, swingy dress from McCall's 6957:
Check out that stripe matching under my arm where no one can see it! But I know it is there. I don't think this is supposed to be a high-low hem (at least, not according to the line drawing), but that's how it ended up, despite the fact that I did a 1.25" swayback adjustment. It's fine though, because I like it.
An unintentionally sexy top from McCall's 6963:
I think the lowness of the drape is a result of the FBA I did. It is definitely a date night kind of top!
Some wizard vests (from Simplicity 8023), robes (from a lovely pattern from the SewingPatternPixie available through Etsy), and wands (no pattern there):
The accessories-- ties, scarves, glasses, Gryffindor patches, white button-down shirts, toad-- were all purchased.
I can't even get over my boys. They are awesome. And they just. keep. growing.
I also managed a few holiday gifts, including some Kismet Trinket Boxes from Sew Sweetness. (LOVE this design!!! These are seriously so fun to make!)
These are all the medium round size, measuring about 4.75" tall. I put little treats in them and gifted them to teachers and friends.
Finally, I also made some maxi-pads and panty-liners of my own design.
I feel like I should note that I do not generally make a habit of giving feminine hygiene products to my friends/family. My sister-in-law specifically requested these. :P
Relative to my usual output and craftiness... the last six months has been a serious dry spell, creativity-wise. PTA has kind of been all-consuming, leaving very little energy for anything else.
So! My new mantra starting a couple of days ago is "Life Balance." I am going to make a conscious effort to be present with my family, make my home a better place to be (cleaner, more organized), while at the same still doing my PTA job and also taking better care of myself by eating better, making time to exercise again (I miss running!), and plan dedicated crafty creative time-- including, hopefully, a little blogging. No problem, right? But, if I am conscious of these things, maybe it will help me to make better choices along the way. We'll see how it goes.
Hope you have had some wonderful holidays and I wish you a joyful start to 2017!

Train painting fun!
Last week, my husband picked up some unpainted wooden train toys. We all worked together to get them ready for playtime.
Big Bear decided he wanted an apple-grape juice car, so he started by painting his tanker dark purple.
Little Bear is a chocoholic, so we decided to make his into a chocolate syrup car and he painted his tanker a light brown.
Then Mama and Papa took over and did some detail work. He finished up the apple-grape juice tanker, and I completed the chocolate syrup tanker.
And now there are some very unique tankers being shunted about on the train table as well as a pair of very happy boys.

Little Bear is TWO!
Last week Little Bear turned two. Crazy! How does it go by so fast? My goodness. We celebrated his special day with a family party. And there was, of course, some crafty goodness involved.
Cupcakes!
Vanilla Bean Cupcakes with Vanilla Bean Frosting to be specific (recipe from How Sweet it Is) decorated with dark chocolate M&Ms (because LB is a budding chocoholic). They tasted amazing! I especially LOVED the frosting. The cupcake itself was a little on the dry side, but had great flavor. Little Bear definitely enjoyed them!
Like mama, he did seem partial to the frosting.
The festivities also included opening lots of presents, including a few made by mama.
First up was a quilted playmat.
I found this canvas panel when I was on shop hop a few weeks ago. As both Big Bear and Little Bear are fanatics of things that go (particularly cars and trains), I had to pick it up. The panel is a Clothworks design by Richard Neuman called "Choo Choo You."
I spent about four hours quilting it-- lots of stippling and outline stitching. This is the back, so you can maybe get a better idea of the amount of quilting on there. It was a simple project, but not quick. I am really happy with how it turned out, as were the Bears.
They spend part of every day playing on it-- building lego houses, racing cars and trains, and creating elaborate adventure stories. It is so much fun to watch them play!
I also made a flannel pillowcase and a pair of comfy pajama bottoms.
The pajama pants are Kwik Sew 3126 (which I have made before for Big Bear). I shortened them by 1-3/4" and also cut them to allow me to do a contrasting band at the bottom of the legs (I didn't have enough of either fabric to do a full pair, so I adapted it to allow me to use what I had left of each).
Little Bear loves his new comfy pants and they fit perfectly (yay!). Unfortunately, he is not a fan of the pillowcase. Every night when we put him in the crib, the first thing he does is pull the edge of the flannel back to expose the pillow inside. Then he sleeps on the bare pillow. Doh! So, a non-flannel pillowcase for him has been added to the queue. But not to worry, Big Bear is perfectly happy with the flannel one-- so it is definitely getting used!
The day after his birthday, we went to the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival.
I love this picture of us. Happy birthday, Little Bear!

Festive fall fun!
Today the boys and I visited the pumpkin patch with our preschool friends. Lucky for us, the weather was gorgeous.

Big Bear pretty much picked the first pumpkin he saw. I swear, it is becoming impossible to catch this boy a.) looking at the camera and b.) smiling. It's like he has a sixth sense to look away and/or frown whenever the camera is pointed in his direction.

The pumpkin patch was a lot of fun-- there was a petting area with farm animals, a hay maze (with a big slide at the end), tractors, a hay ride, ice cream, a playground, and (of course) a fabulous pumpkin patch. After just a couple hours, we were beat!

And there's even a picture of me and Little Bear-- a rare event! (Thank you, Danielle!)
Meanwhile, in crafting land, I've been busy working on costumes.

The cutting is complete (yay!), so now I can start doing the fun stuff-- the actual sewing!
